Thowar is the administrative in the middle of Roundu Subdivision, District Skardu Gilgit-Baltistan. Roundu valley is an about 150 kilometers long canyon along the banks of the Indus River, Pakistan's longest river. 

Around 100,000 people live in Roundu Valley as a whole, and the Thowar Valley is home to the Subdivisional headquarters. The Gilgit-Skardu road cuts through the Dambudas, the marketplace, and the center of Thowar Valley. 

For tourist  to the stunning Roundu Valley regions like Tormik Valley, Bilamik Valley, Stak Valley, and Talu Valley, Thowar Valley serves as a base camp. Buses passing through the Thowar valley on their way from or to Islamabad stop there for lunch or dinner depending on the time of departure.

Geography

The Tormik Valley lies to the east of the valley, and the Stak Valley and Askor Valley are to the west. Additionally, Thowar Roundu is close to the Gangi and Bilamik, Hango, and Harpo valleys on the Hamalayan side of the Himalayas (formerly known as Talo Broq).

 The Mandi valley is located in the south, while a mountainous area in the north connects it to the upper valleys of Stak and Tormik.
